Als je op het punt staat om een eigen bedrijf te beginnen, kan het lastig zijn om te bepalen wat voor voorbereidingen je allemaal moet treffen. Hierdoor komt het nog wel eens voor dat vooral jonge ondernemers belangrijke stappen vergeten in het proces van het oprichten van een bedrijf. Dat kan slechte dingen betekenen voor de toekomst van het bedrijf. Vaak merk je het niet meteen als je fouten gemaakt hebt bij het starten van een eigen bedrijf. Die fouten komen pas later boven water wanneer het al te laat is om ze op te lossen. Hierdoor kan het zelfs zijn dat jouw bedrijf failliet gaat. Om te voorkomen dat je in zo’n situatie komt is het belangrijk om je goed voor te bereiden op het starten van een bedrijf.

Als je een bedrijf begint, kun je van te voren al een website maken of laten maken. Je kunt ervoor kiezen om dit zelf te doen zodat je bespaart op de kosten van een professional. Het is dan wel belangrijk dat je weet wat je aan het doen bent. Als dit niet het geval is zal er waarschijnlijk niet de beste site uitkomen. De site is eigenlijk een reclamebord voor jouw bedrijf. Als de site er rommelig en ongeorganiseerd uitziet zullen klanten die associatie hebben bij jouw bedrijf. Het kan daarom dus handig zijn om in elk geval een professional naar jouw zelf gebouwde site te laten kijken. Zo voorkom je dat je beginnersfouten laat zitten die potentiële klanten naar de concurrent laten gaan. Ook is het belangrijk om een goede domeinnaam uit te kiezen. Een pakkende domeinnaam is heel belangrijk voor een goede site. Als je een leuke naam hebt bedacht voor je site moet je zo snel mogelijk die domeinnaam claimen. Dit kun je ook later doen maar dan loop je het risico dat iemand anders de naam eerder claimt dan jij. 

Als je een bedrijf begint waar medewerkers nodig zijn zul je een bedrijfspand moeten regelen. Het is waarschijnlijk het verstandigst om een pand te huren als je bedrijf pas net begonnen is. Meestal hebben nieuwe bedrijven niet het budget om een eigen kantoor te kopen. Het is ook een voordeel aan het huren van een bedrijfspand dat je de huur kunt opzeggen. Als je bedrijf nou na een aantal maanden failliet dreigt te gaan kun je altijd nog de huur opzeggen. Dit is natuurlijk niet leuk maar het is nog minder leuk als je bedrijf uiteindelijk failliet gaat. Als je een pand hebt gekocht voor je bedrijf kun je dit niet zo gemakkelijk verkopen. Het is daarom voor beginnende ondernemers een beter idee om eerst een pand te huren en later als het bedrijf goed loopt een eigen pand te kopen. Hierdoor loop je minder risico op een faillissement dan wanneer je gelijk een pand koopt. Het is alleen verstandig om een pand te kopen als je genoeg budget hebt om er zeker van te zijn dat je bedrijf de komende tijd niet in financiële problemen gaat komen.
